First edition of Treasure Island. The frontispiece features a treasure map printed in three colours. A copy with the characteristics of the first edition: dead man's chest in lower case on pp. 2 and 7; the first letter of vain broken at the end of p. 40; the dot missing after opportunity on p. 178, l. 20; worse instead of worst on p. 197, l. 3; the number 8 missing from the pagination on p. 83; and, at the end of the volume, the publisher's catalogue coded 5R-1083. A very fine copy in an attractive binding by Zaehnsdorf, one of the best English bookbinders of the time.
