Still life Kilburn, William 5 still lifes with fruit. 1776. each hand-coloured copperplate engraving on wove paper. Each 15.5 x 19 cm (each approx. 22 x 30 cm). Each inscribed "Kilburne Pinx" in the plate and "Printed for R. Sayer & J. Bennett No. 53 Fleet Street, as the Act directs 20 July 1776". Each mounted and framed under passepartout and behind glass. R. Sayer & J. Bennett 1776 - Contains: Peach, apple, pomegranate, cucumber, apple & pear. - William Kilburn was an outstanding engraver of the 18th century who is particularly famous for his detailed depictions of plants and flowers. His works often depict exotic flowers, fruits and other natural motifs, which were used in ornate prints as well as in textile patterns. Kilburn worked closely with the famous botanist William Curtis and illustrated his Flora Londinensis, an important botanical work. The present still lifes are characterised by a masterly attention to detail, harmonious colouring and charming composition. - The verso of each sheet browned due to age and with partial stains.
