An extraordinary monumental gilded console table, in the Baroque style, of exceptional scenographic impact. The work is distinguished by the quality of the carving and the narrative force of the sculptures supporting it: two pairs of allegorical figures, modelled in the round, entwined in an intense and theatrical embrace. The powerful and harmonious bodies emerge with great plasticity, conveying a sense of movement, energy and controlled sensuality typical of the more mature Baroque language. The figures, probably allegories of Strength, Love or Abundance, act as supporting elements like real sculptural caryatids, giving the whole an almost architectural presence. The upper band, embellished with a rich decoration of vine leaves and bunches of grapes, frames the wooden top lacquered in imitation green marble.
