STUNNING CHALCIDIAN BRONZE HELMET. Ca. 500 BC. A bronze Chalcidian helmet with a rounded skull and a high carinated crown. A raised ridge runs along the lower edge, defining the transition to the cheek guards and neck guard. The eye openings are framed by an arching contour, extending into outwardly flared cheek guards with hinged cheekpieces, decorated with a pattern of raised concentric circles and attached to the lower edge via a series of small rectangular hinges. A narrow, flaring neck guard extends from the back, curving slightly outward. A prominent nose guard extends downward from the brow, tapering slightly towards the tip. The surface along the eye cuts and cheek guards, is further detailed with rows of punched dots forming decorative bands along the edges.
