STUNNING HELLENISTIC GOLD EARRING WITH EROS HOLDING OFFERING VESSELS. Ca. 300 - 200 BC. A stunning gold earring featuring the upper section consisting of a rosette with a raised central boss encircled by radiating petals. Delicate scrollwork fills the spaces between the petals, and the field is further embellished with applied small circular beads. The outer edge is slightly irregular, with a loop at the top for suspension. The figure of Eros is depicted with finely detailed facial features, short wavy hair, and outstretched wings with individually defined feathers. The left arm is extended, holding a phiale, while the right is grasping a jug. The draped garment clings to the lower body, partially covering the legs. One foot is slightly forward. The connection between the rosette and the figure is made through a small gold loop.
