First and only edition. - Rare. - Sabin 77791 - With a preface by Alexander von Humboldt. - Robert Schomburgk was a German botanist who, in co-operation with the British Geographical Society, undertook a four-year research trip to British Guiana. After his trip, which resulted in the present work, he was commissioned by the British government to help define the border between Venezuela and French Guiana. - The lithographs show the landscape of the country as well as the indigenous population. - Heavily foxed. Lithographs in strong colour unaffected. Overall a good copy. With 6 coloured lithographs and a border-coloured folded map. Half vellum with gold-stamped spine label. (Dusty and rubbed.) - First and only edition. - Rare. - With a foreword by Alexander von Humboldt. - Robert Schomburgk was a German botanist who undertook a four-year research trip to British Guiana in co-operation with the British Geographical Society.
