South America Prince of Prussia, Adalbert From my diary 1842-1843. 1 vol. With a lithographic frontispiece and 9 partly folded engraved maps. Berlin, self-published, 1847. VI, 1 vol., 778 p., 4 vols. 4°. Later blind-stamped cloth with gilt-stamped coat of arms and gilt-stamped title using the spine and covers. Red ribbon marker (slightly stained, minimally rubbed). The original German edition of the text volume. - Not available for us in the German trade. - The work, published by the Prussian Prince Adalbert (1811-1873) himself, tells of the Prince's travels in the years 1842-1843. At his request, he was allowed to accompany his father, the Prussian King, on his journey to Italy. They travelled around Sicily and Malta, where Prince Adalbert climbed Mount Etna with his brother Waldemar. On 22 June 1824, the prince left the Gulf of Lyon on a ship provided by the King of Sardinia and sailed for Brazil. He wrote that such a journey to the tropics had been one of his dreams since childhood. After a journey of around three months across the Atlantic, the ship reached the harbour of Rio de Janeiro. The second half of the book is thus dedicated to his time and journey in Brazil. - Some foxing, edges slightly browned. Frontispiece and title page more heavily stained. Partly border- and area-coloured maps, partly mounted. Overall a well-preserved and beautiful copy of the first edition. South America. - 1 vol.
