Lorentz and Gustavo Niederlein, who accompanied General Roca's so-called "desert campaign" of 1879 as a punitive military action against indigenous people. - Provenance: "Geographisches Institut der Universität Berlin" and "Gesellschaft für Erdkunde zu Berlin", with several stamps and partly with cancellation stamps of these institutions, e.g. on recto endpaper and title page of vol. 1.
