South German sculptor (active in the 18th century) Christ at rest Carved limewood, eyes and lips painted in colour. Fully sculpted, artistically outstanding, subtle and fine depiction of Christ sitting on a rock, clothed only in a loincloth and without a crown of thorns or shackles. He is thus depicted here entirely as a human being, rather than as the Son of God. He is depicted in a final moment of contemplation directly before the crucifixion and in a pensive pose with his right arm resting on a tree stump and his hand resting on his head. H. 19.5 cm.
