South German carver (active in the 18th century) Corpus Christi In anatomically true physicality, a full-round Corpus Christi carved from boxwood in the three-nail type as "christo vivo", formerly attached to a cross, the head to his right and looking upwards to heaven, with recognisable teeth and tongue in the open mouth. The carver has finely worked out the long, wavy hair, which ends in swirls of curls on the shoulder, as well as the detailed curling beard. Hands damaged; h. 34.5 cm; w. 27.5 cm. Provenance: Dissolution of an important German private collection - part II. South German sculptor active 18th century. Finely carved boxwood Corpus Christi. Flaws to the hands.
