South German ivory carver (active around 1900) Madonna with angels Carved ivory; silver (800). Large, finely executed statuette in a slight S-shape standing on a transverse octagonal pedestal base, the Virgin Mary, according to traditional iconography, in a floor-length mantle over a belted dress, a veil on her head. With both hands, she carries the Christ Child on her right side, holding the symbolic apple in her right hand while raising her left hand in a gesture of blessing. Polygonal, stepped plinth mount with four small, fully sculpted, kneeling angels, one hand raised in greeting, marked 800. Oval, allegorical relief cartouches in silver on four main sides of the ivory plinth. Total height 37 cm. CITES certificate available. South German ivory sculptor active circa 1900.
