Suite of 6 square-backed moulded and carved cream lacquered armchairs, fluted armrests and arm brackets terminating in scrolls, the straight crosspieces connected to the legs by rosette dice, the fluted tapered legs, 2 of which are filleted. (Restorations, including an armchair with a reinforced seat, wear to the lacquer). Louis XVI period - Stamps can be read on 5 of the 6 armchairs (front crosspiece): S. BRIZARD for Sulpice Brizard, received master in 1762 Antique stitch upholstery with animal cartouches surrounded by friezes and foliage, reminiscent of La Fontaine's Fables. H.93 x W.59 x D.60 cm Comment : Sulpice Brizard (1733-c. 1796) became a master on 13 February 1762. Married to the daughter of the carpenter Meunier, he settled in rue de Cléry in Paris. He would have worked for the Court, assisted by his workshop. Examples of his chair production can be found in various French institutions, including the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, the Musée Carnavalet and the Musée du Louvre.
