(Accidents and restorations)
A set of six chairs by Jean Avisse, Louis XV period, mid-18th century
Jean Avisse (1723-1796), awarded the title of master joiner on 10 November 1745, established his workshop in 1743 at 124 rue de Cléry. He initially worked on commissions for Parisian merchant-merchants before devoting himself exclusively to a private clientele, notably the French aristocracy. During his career, Avisse worked with the most renowned sculptors of his time, such as François Baillard, Claude Vinache, Pierre Rousseau and Nicolas Heurtaut, creating richly sculpted chairs. His clients included such eminent figures as the Marquise de Chabannes, the Countess de Fontenay and the Chevalier de Lamotte.
