SUPERB ROMAN AGATE INTAGLIO DEPICTING APOLLO CITHAROEDUS AND DEITIES IN GOLD RING. Ca. AD 1 - 300. An agate intaglio engraved with Apollo citharoedus standing before a lighted altar, the kithara raised in his left hand, attended by draped figures of deities, all on a groundline within an oval field. The gem is set in a collet within a broad gold bezel, mounted on a solid ring with expanding shoulders and a rounded hoop. The ring of a possibly later period. For similar see: J.
