Lot no. 1849
Sven Drühl (born 1968 Nassau/Lahn; lives and works in Berlin)
"E. B.". Original title
A strongly abstracted composition with broad, bold brushstrokes and a relief-like, raised contour line that evokes associations with a partially snow-covered landscape. Drühl, who trained in Essen, understands painting as a concept. Not only does he use the painting materials as conceptual means, he also draws on the repertoire of well-known painters such as Caspar David Friedrich and Claude Monet for motifs. His works can be seen as a "remix" of the respective art-historical model; only basic forms are reminiscent of the well-known models, thus minimising the original context or narrative qualities. In addition to the alienation of the painting media, the colours are usually reduced or minimised to black and white. Oil and silicone on canvas; signed, titled and dated on verso. 2001. 150 cm x 150 cm.
