Paris, Quantin, [1884]. Large in-8°, publisher's percaline, rich polychrome decoration, wide mosaic band imitating a reptile skin, decorated with a gilt chain and sea anchor, gilt head, cover and spine cons. (Engel relieur). This edition, illustrated with compositions by Poirson, is one of the first to be published in colour using the gillotage process (see Carteret). Fine specimen binding, slight defect to one of the bands.
Gumuchian, 5492: "First complete and exact translation made on the English text...Until then we had been reduced to the version of the Abbé Desfontaines, more or less completed and rejuvenated". AP
