Oval snuff box in 18 carat gold... - Lot 349 - Coutau-Bégarie Oval-shaped snuffbox in 18 carat gold (750 ‰) chased with scrolls and foliage on the border partially enamelled white on black, the edges guilloché and green enamelled with garlands of flowers, punctuated with chased medallions enamelled white on black. The hinged lid, with its wave motif, is decorated with a green enamelled reserve featuring trophies in mauve monochrome. The same motifs are found on the reverse, this time with a floral composition. Swiss work, circa 1830, probably for the Ottoman market. No apparent hallmark. Minor dents to the interior, enamel missing from one of the compartments on the edge and a few small chips, one of the screws on the upper rim missing. Length: 7.8 cm - Height: 1.7 cm - Depth: 5 cm. Gross weight: 90.56 g. Related work A snuffbox with similar decoration, probably by the same silversmith, sold at Christie's London, 12 November 2020, lot 93.
