Game table in speckled mahogany and gilt bronze, opening on two pivoting drawers operated by a push-button, the removable and reversible top revealing a tric-trac game with bone inlays, resting on sheathed legs ending in claws; (restorations and wear). Stamped "Au singe violet" for Martin Guillaume Biennais (1764-1843). Empire period. H: 73 cm, W: 111 cm, D: 58 cm Martin Guillaume Biennais supplied a number of game tables for the imperial palaces, including a very similar quadrille table, also in speckled mahogany with claw feet, in 1804 for the Fontainebleau palace (J-P. Samoyault, Meubles entrés sous le Premier Empire, Fontainebleau, Paris, 2004, p. 284).
