Birth tables appeared during the reign of Louis XV. Although rare, there are a number of them stamped by cabinet-makers such as Garnier and Migeon. Under Louis XVI, the most famous, in mahogany and consisting solely of the bed table section, bears the mark of the Queen's furniture repository; it was sold in the sale of the Jacques Garcia collection, in Paris, Sotheby's, on 16 May 2023, lot 30 (pre-empted by the Château de Versailles).
