Lot no. 151
Bagan Buddha clay votive tablet 11th century Burma, 12.5 cm high
Probably stamped with a Pala seal, archaic Burmese script on the back
In the 11th century, just after King Anawratha converted to Therravada Buddhism, he began producing votive tablets with Indian seals before creating his own. The archaic Burmese script on the back is similar to that found in Gordon Luce's book Early Pagan.
