Everything, on the contrary, is temporary. / "Nothing is permanent, nothing is everlasting. No material can survive forever. Everything, on the contrary, is temporary. Tadashi Kawamata FR Tadashi Kawamata is famous for his site-specific interventions using assemblages of wooden planks, chairs and barrels, with which he creates architectural structures that question the built forms of our cities and the way we experience public space. Working on the constant tension between the powerful force of the landscape and our civilisation, which is both vulnerable and destructive, Tadashi Kawamata points out that the human need for permanence despite the forces of nature has ecologically fatal consequences. Along with the plans for the Tree huts, the models remain the only material evidence of Kawamata's in situ installations, as can be seen with the huts at the Centre Pompidou or Tremblay, for example. According to Kawamata, the huts appear suddenly and unexpectedly in the urban space, leading everyone to rediscover and question it. Impermanence makes a major contribution to the reflection on the social context and human relations that is present in his work.
