TAILHADE Laurent (1854-1919). Towards infinity. Manuscript poem; 4 pp. in-8, dated April 1873. Bound with the printed version, Tarbes, 1874; 4 pp. in-8 booklet (only the poem concerned, without the rest of the booklet), half havana grosgrain morocco with corners, ribbed spine, gilt head, blue cover. Manuscript of the poem Vers l'infini with numerous variants from the version printed a few months later, with the Bouquet de violettes following. The poem was awarded a prize by the Académie des Jeux Floraux in 1874. It was the very first publication by a young nineteen-year-old poet, still vibrant with Symbolist impulses. He would go on to write Pays du mufle and the scatological poems (see next lot).
