TANG DYNASTY POTTERY SOGDIAN MERCHANT FIGURE - TL TESTED. Ca. AD 618 - 907. A pottery figure of a Sogdian merchant standing on an integral, rectangular base. A tall, pointed hat with a slightly curved tip sits atop the head, complementing the knee-length tunic with a crossover lapel and a sash tied at the waist with draped folds. Faded red and green pigments remain on the tunic, while traces of blue are visible on the sleeves. Bent at the elbows, the arms hold clenched hands near the chest. Prominent cheekbones, a furrowed brow, and slightly narrowed eyes define the sculpted face. Straight legs end in pointed shoes, firmly planted on the base. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
