Lot no. 586
Tanguy et Laverdure, plate no. 16 in Indian ink from the episode "Escadrille des cigognes" (sc. Jean-Michel Charlier) published in the newspaper Pilote no. 136 of 31 May 1962 and previously unpublished in the album. In this fourth episode of "Les Chevaliers du ciel", the heroes have earned their qualifications as patrol leaders and are transferred to the Longvic (Dijon) base. This gives them the honour of joining the famous Stork Squadron, home to some of the greatest figures in French fighter aviation during the First World War (René Fonck, Georges Guynemer, Armand Pinsard, Roland Garros, etc.). While there, they discover the new Mirage IIIc, Dassault's fighter plane and the flagship of French aeronautics. In this composition combining suspense and action, five pilots from the squadron went to Mont-de-Marsan to take delivery of Mirage IIIc aircraft fitted with new electronic equipment. During the return flight, the inflatable lifeboat on which Laverdure was sitting accidentally went off, crushing the pilot and preventing him from taking control of his aircraft. The rest of this serious incident is revealed on the plate... (Trace of sticky paper in the 6th panel and folds. Mounted on thick paper). There is a kind dedication on the backing to a "drawing and aeronautics" enthusiast. Signed. Size of plate : 42 x 47. Size of backing: 47.6 x 54.3.
