HISTORY : Tapio Wirkkala was inspired by the spring ice melt in Lapland in northern Finland. This first-hand observation of icy landscapes influenced the collection's unique textures, which evoke drops of water and frozen surfaces. Wirkkala spent time with the glassblowers at the Iittala glassworks to create the Ultima Thule series, which defies the rules of glassblowing. Featuring a round base supported by three small stalagtites, the Ultima Thule collection brings a piece of Arctic nature to tableware.
