A Qashqai Kashguli Millefleur carpet, South West Persia, Fars, late 19th century
Of all the tribes of the Kashkai Confederation, the Kashkulis have emerged as the most inspired and prolific weavers of floral carpets. Their famous finely knotted Millefleur pattern is very rare to find and of great interest to collectors. This piece features Safavid and Mughal-inspired motifs, just as Qashqais millefleur niche carpets are echoed in older Indian millefleur carpets and shawls.
