First edition of this treatise on the anatomy of the brain.
The engraved plates contain a large number of anatomical figures of the brain and cerebellum.
The anatomist Pierre Tarin (Courtenay 1725-1761) was one of the editors of Diderot and D'Alembert's Encyclopédie. The 3 colour plates are one of the first attempts at colour printing. Tarin was assistant-preparator to Gautier d'Agoty, but in the list of authors and doctors who have dealt with the brain (pp. 37-46) he omits to mention the latter, author in 1748 of an Anatomie de la tête en tableaux imprimés which represents the brain in its natural state...
Corners and covers dull.
Ex-libris Dr François Moutier. This physician-poet (1881-1961) was a great neurologist and a famous gastro-enterologist. Library stamps on faux-titre and title (V. Josset de St Julien à Montargis).
