WHITE PORCELAIN AND GOLD CUP AND SAUCER, VINOVO MANUFACTORY, GIOANETTI PERIOD, CIRCA 1785 decorated with the Savoy crowned coat of arms of Victor Amadeus III- some wear to the gold, especially to the saucer Factory mark in gold and factory hallmarks, antiquarian gallery label H. cm 7, saucer diameter cm 11,7 AN ARMORIAL VINOVO WHITE AND GOLD PORCELAIN CUP WITH SAUCER, CIRCA 1785- GILDING SLIGHTLY WORN, ESPECIALLY THE SAUCER Our porcelain is part of a serving set that is well known to scholars, and perhaps enlarged for the patron Vittorio Amedeo III of Savoy: the collections of Palazzo Madama in Turin preserve an abundant sample (inv. 2143/C), while a coffee pot is at the Palazzo Reale in Turin (S. Pettenati in AA. VV., Porcellane ed Argenti del Palazzo Reale di Torino, exhibition catalogue, Turin, 1986, fig. 147, with a date of 1778-1779), a cup and saucer is now in the British Museum in London (A. Mottola Molfino, L'arte della ceramica in Italia, Busto Arsizio, 1976, II, fig. IV, figs. 42-44) and finally another coffee pot is now in the Gianetti Museum in Saronno (inv. 43). Melegati in publishing the latter in 2000 (L. Melegati in AA. VV., Porcellane italiane europee ed orientali, Ceramiche della collezione Gianetti, Milano, 2000, card no. 208 pp. 218-219) dated it around 1782-1789, and part of the documented supplies destined for the use of the Sovereign in 1779, 1782, 1784 and again 1789.
