Technique: oil on canvas Dimensions: 34x23 cm; with frame 48x39 cm Raphael Celommi The rest of the shepherdess, oil on canvas, 34x23 cm; with frame 48x39 cm A young barefoot shepherdess - her bare feet are in the foreground - is sitting on the ground, holding a rod in her hand; the sun is behind her: we are at sunset, given the warm, dazzling light that blurs the outlines of the sheep and the landscape in the background. Raffaello Celommi (1881-1957) was the son of the painter Pasquale Celommi and the Florentine Giuseppina Giusti. His father's art influenced his production, especially in the choice of subjects, but he succeeded in defining his own stylistic signature, characterised by luministic effects. The painting is signed in the lower left-hand corner (the letter R of Raphael intertwines the C of Celommi), and mounted in an elaborate gold-painted frame, with some missing parts. The work has already gone to auction (Liveauctioneers, 9 September 2018).
