Lot no. 604
EGOISTE TEAPOT IN POLYCHROME PORCELAIN, MEISSEN MANUFACTORY, EARLY 19TH CENTURY globular and with floral bouquet decoration on a plain blue ground; little wear and tear Factory mark H 9.5 cm, W 14.5 cm AN EGOISTE MEISSEN PORCELAIN TEA POT, FIRST 19TH CENTURY; SLIGHTLY WORN This teapot, and the items illustrated below (lots 292 ; 296) are part of an evidently larger ensemble, and en suite with a tea and coffee service from a private collection exhibited in Turin in 2001 (L. Melegati in A. d'Agliano, L. Melegati, I fragili Lussi. Porcelain of Meissen from Museums and Private Collections, exhibition catalogue, Turin 2001, at card no. 93) dated to the end of the 18th century. On that occasion, it was noted how the shapes and decorations used employed French prototypes (the Hebert shape for cups and sugar bowl, shapes developed in Vincennes-Sèvres in 1753 and 1754), Germanic influences (the broken-line handles widely used in Vienna) and, more generally, a decoration of a mature and rich neo-classical taste in the abundant use of gilding contrasting with the plain blue background. Other services of this style are today preserved in the Zwinger Museum (inv. P. E. 1567) and the Württembergisches Landesmuseum (inv. 8.484 and inv. 9.431).
