In folio (375 x 274 mm) of 1 f. of table, 43 plates, in sheets, cover illustrated in colours, muted grey cloth box, slightly soiled on the upper cover.
Rare album of 43 lithographed colour caricatures of 5th Corps staff officers during the First World War. Dedicated to Sister Gabrielle R., superior of the hospital in Clermont, this work may have been composed while the artist was convalescing.
Illustrator and caricaturist Jean Saurel (1873-1922) contributed under the pseudonym Jehan Testevuide to various newspapers and magazines, including La Semaine de Suzette, Le Sourire, Le Frou-frou, L'Assiette au beurre, Le Monde illustré and Le Cri de Paris.
An edition of small numbers, this one no. 65 printed and coloured specially for Commandant Fontaine.
