* THE MOTHER OF GOD OF VLADIMIR WITH A SILVER-GILT, FILIGREE AND ENAMEL OKLAD RUSSIAN, THE ICON DATING CIRCA 1800, THE OKLAD MADE BY THE FIRST MOSCOW ARTEL, 1908 31.7 by 26.7 cm. Portrayed half-length, the Mother of God tenderly holds her Son and leans towards Him; the Child eagerly embraces her and presses His face to her cheek. It is executed in the traditional style with subdued, natural tones; the silver-gilt oklad with an engraved, radiating background, the figures covered in silver filigree, the raised border defined by strigilated rims, adorned with opulent repousse foliage and flower buds; the haloes and spandrels in painted cloisonne enamel masterfully executed, the inscription plate in champleve, marked on the lower rim, upper left spandrel and on the halo.
