[THEATRE]. Dramatic masterpieces. Paris, Belin, Valade, 1791. 72 vol. in-18 bound in full green morocco, ornate gilt spines, triple fillet framing the covers, gilt fillet at the edges (Binding of the period). Charming set of 72 vol. of the 1791 reprint published by François Belin and Jean-Jacques Denis Valade, of the first issue of the Petite Bibliothèque des théâtres published in 1783-1789 and given by the same Belin associated with Thomas Brunet. Very good condition, some wear to some headpieces and edges. Ex-libris of the Library of Champy, eldest son of Pierre Champy (1793-1876), deputy of Strasbourg to the National Assembly in 1792, deputy mayor of Strasbourg and people's representative in 1848 following the February Revolution. Alongside his military and political commitments, he distinguished himself as a lithographer, notably through his contributions to the illustration of European military costumes in the 19th century. Provenance: Collection of Princess Marie-Clotilde Bonaparte, Countess de Witt, which has remained in the family to this day. Very good condition Minor flaws (chips, dents...) to a few headpieces and spine ends throughout. Some corners a little dulled Paper a little oxidised depending on the vol.
