Exceptionally rare Czech Bible from the office of Paul Severin. - Nagler, monogramists IV, 1473, 2131 and 2151 (Schwarzenberg) and V, 129.611 (Terzi). - Currently no copy for us in the trade, only one complete copy traceable at auctions for more than 60 years (1962). - Second edition of Severin's "Biblia Bohemica", richly illustrated throughout with numerous woodcuts; the first edition was published in 1529. The woodcuts by renowned engravers such as Francesco Terzi and Melchior Schwarzenberg are mostly large-format, with detailed scenes from the OT and NT. - Provenance: Owner's inscription in manuscript on title page: "Ex libris P. Carolo Kolarsovsky", dated 1756 - Marginal notes in an old hand, partly in Hebrew letters. - Binding with losses on spine and front cover, spine later rebacked on linen. - Leaves aI (title page) to bII and CCi to EEvi as well as a few other leaves with losses, some with loss of image and text, especially in the margins, these backed by an old hand. Leaf EEii loose. - Copy with light brownish water stains throughout, cut soiled. - Margins of leaves often fingerstained, soiled and occasionally slightly foxed.
