With fulls. Title woodcut, 162 text woodcuts, and printer's mark in woodcut. Strasbourg, Jobin, 1590. 92 (of 96) nn. Sign. )(8, A-L8. 8°. HLdr. of the 18th cent. with ornament. Gilt titles, endpapers in multicolour. Multicoloured paper and bookmark ribbon (somewhat bumped and rubbed). Very rare, also with missing woodcuts, only 3 copies traceable for us at auctions. - VD16 F 1156 (and fish type). - Richly detailed and neatly trimmed series of Bible illustrations by Tobias Stimmer, first published by Garwin in Basel in 1576. Each sheet with 2 woodcuts, including the Latin and German verses by Fischart. - Provenance: Counts Harrach, Austrian aristocracy, with the cancellation stamp "Ex Bibliotheca Viennensi" on the title page. - 4 leaves missing (G2, G7, H4 and H5). The upper third of the book block almost entirely slightly worm-eaten, partly finger- and soil-stained, browned. Overall a solidly preserved copy, worth collecting due to its rarity. Overall a solidly preserved copy, worth collecting due to its rarity. This lot is taxed.
