Pettas (Giunti) 218 - Ruiz Fidalgo 289 - Pettegree IB 10476 - Palau 116,964 - STC Spanish (BL) 99 - Not in Adams. - Very rare Spanish translation of a treatise on the training of preachers by Humbert de Romans (1200-1277), the fifth Master General of the Dominicans, which was produced in the Dominican convent of San Esteban de Salamanca. It is also attributed to Guliemus Peraldus (1190-1271). - Provenance: Counts Harrach, Austrian aristocracy, with the cancellation stamp "Ex Bibliotheca Viennensi" on the title page and hs. Library sigle on flyleaf. Front endpaper recto. Ferdinand Bonaventura I von Harrach (1637-1706) and his son Alois Count Harrach (1669-1762) were Austrian envoys in Madrid. The latter also held the office of viceroy in the then Spanish Kingdom of Naples between 1728 and 1733. During this time, the Harrachs built up a considerable collection of Spanish and Italian prints from the 16th and 17th centuries, which would later enrich the library of the Harrach Palace in Vienna. (Cf. Wurzbach VII (1861), pp. 371-73.) - Front endpaper with loss. Front endpaper with loss, margins trimmed, occasional cancellations and small marginalia in margins, last illustrated leaf with tear, cut and margins slightly foxed in places, otherwise generally well preserved.
