2 volumes, folio (440 x 170mm) portrait of Thorwaldsen on the frontispiece, 115 plates numbered 1-116 (some of which are on several sheets or folded, plate 34 is not present as in almost all copies) and accompanying explanatory pages on double column in Italian and French (stain in outer margin of first volume). 19th-century half-leather binding with title and gold decoration on the spine.
Rare monograph dedicated to the works of the Danish classicist Berthel Thorvaldsen. The elegant engravings, accompanied by detailed explanatory cards, offer the reader an overview of the vast artistic production of this illustrious sculptor and its reception in the first decades of the 19th century.
