Lot no. 543
Tillieux: Gil Jourdan, Indian ink and white gouache plate no. 26 from the episode "L'Enfer de Xique-Xique" ("Xique-Xique's Hell") published in the Spirou newspaper no. 1182 of 8 December 1960. Gil Jourdan is found in the middle of the night in the prison of Xique-Xique, lost in the desert of Mandacaru. During the night, the detective sneaks into the cabin where Jean Cambon, the man the heroes have gone to find in the Republic of Massacara, is being held. After listening carefully to Cambon's story, Gil Jourdan wants to devise a plan to escape from this hellish place and reach French Guiana.
The first panel shows Libellule and the terrible Captain Escuerdo waving his flask at the prisoner. This comic interlude becomes a running gag, culminating in plate 30. Watercolour on the reverse. Size: 31 x 42.5 cm.
