TIMOR, Sunda Island, Indonesia. Hardwood statuette with a dark reddish-brown patina, used in ceremonies to invoke rain. The arms rest on the hips, while the ovoid head gives the piece a singular presence. Height: 26 cm. Provenance: Collected in situ in 1970 by Jacques Cortecero in a Kampung in the Sunda Islands.
