TIMOR, Indonesia. Hardwood, glossy reddish-brown patina. Coconut grater depicting a seated ancestor holding an offering bowl, his legs carved with two crocodiles. The user would sit on the stool and grate the coconut flesh onto the serrated metal blade, which is missing here. Height: 45 cm. Width: 30 cm. Provenance: Collected in situ in 1970 by Jacques Cortecero in a Belu Kampung in the Sunda Islands.
