TIMOR, Indonesia. Hardwood with a dark reddish-brown, slightly grainy patina. Statue used during ritual ceremonies and representing a woman with a bun standing on her pregnant belly. Her hands are delicately placed on the top of her belly, in a symbolic gesture. The realistic face is marked by eyes inlaid with white pearls, accentuating the gaze and giving it a strong, singular expression. Height: 30 cm. Note: This statue is thought to have been collected around 1900.
