WESTERN TIMOR, Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. A buffalo horn spoon with a matt patina, the handle engraved with symbolic openwork motifs and topped with a bird's beak. Spoons decorated with bird figures were used in ritual ceremonies. Length: 28cm. Provenance: Collected in situ in 1970 by Jacques Cortecero in a Kupang Kampung in the Sunda Islands.
