[TISSAGE]. Set of six manuscripts. Theory on the manufacture of silk fabrics. S.l.n.d. [Romans-sur-Isère (?), ca. 1860]. Manuscript of [240] pp. approx. In-folio, green half suede with corners, smooth mute spine (Binding of the period). A very fine manuscript on silk weaving, comprising a theoretical course illustrated with numerous finely drawn diagrams in ink, including 11 large full-page figures, in the first part, and a description of the various fabrics, enriched with more than 180 samples pasted into the text, in the second part. A double-page handwritten table of comb staves is included. Handwritten note by Raymond Bouzon, with ex-libris stamp: "This book comes from Uncle Guichard, cloth merchant in Romans, Drôme...". Some marginal stains and foxing, discharges of some samples.
Cahier de théorie de Jean Silo. [Lyon], 1825. Manuscript of 40, [49] pp. in folio, green half leather with corners, handwritten title on the first cover (J. Cumain, Md paper maker in Lyon). Interesting manuscript by a silk maker from Lyon, devoted to the Principles of making silk fabrics of all kinds (plain, patterned, brocaded, etc.), for both clothing and furnishings. The text is illustrated with numerous carefully handwritten tables and technical diagrams, and the second part includes around 70 samples of the various fabrics described in the book. Jean Silo was established as a silk merchant and manufacturer in Place Tolozan, Lyon. Spine damaged with major tears, some samples missing or fragmentary.
Hilaire Richan's notebook. S.l.n.d. [Lyon, ca. 1810]. Manuscript of [42] ff. and [32] bl. ff. In-folio, stiff vellum with large flap and gusseted pockets on both spandrels, double framed with fillets in brown ink, four handwritten figures in the centre of the first plate (Binding of the period). Working manuscript of a Lyonnais silk maker from the early 19th century. The text includes a weaving course illustrated with handwritten tables, diagrams and maps, and numerous samples of silks laminated. Interesting flap binding with gusseted pockets, decorated with a figure four in brown ink. A merchant by the name of Hilaire-Philippe Richan was mayor of Croix-Rousse from 1830 to 1832.
Three other similar manuscripts are included, for a total of 6 volumes.
