Gathered in this Parnassus by a passionate amateur, the biographies of the greatest French poets, poetesses, musicians of the 16th and 17th c., some of them constituting the first printed source. - Some are the first printed source on their subject - always lively, peppered with anecdotes and, sometimes, the author's direct testimony. From the poets of the Pléiade to La Fontaine and Lully, from Marguerite d'Angoulême to Mme de la Suze, from Marin Marais to Marc-Antoine Charpentier... A RARE COMPLETE EDITION OF THE TWO SUPPLEMENTS, in original editions, which Titon continued to add to his Parnasse until 1755, WITH AN ENVOICE FROM THE AUTHOR AND MANY CORRECTIONS IN HIS HAND. A third supplement appeared in 1760, probably after the copy had been offered. Elegant and fresh binding. Some spotting on the boards, small loss at the upper head, but a very fine copy nonetheless.
