Lot no. 36
Tiziano Aspetti, Volcano, bronze
Titian Aspects
(Padua 1559 - Pisa 1606)
VULCANO
bronze sculpture, h. 42.5 cm; mounted on polychrome marble plinth base, 17x14.6 cm
The lord of fire and worker of metals is depicted in torsion while holding the hammer ready to strike a blow on the anvil. The precision in detail, the careful rendering of musculature, beard and hair, as well as the face with a furrowed brow to give a sense of effort, are characteristic of the sculptor's elegance. Similar examples are preserved in the collections of the Musei Civici in Padua, the Museo Correr in Venice and the Spitzer collection in Paris.
