TOPFFER (Rodolphe). Journey to the Alps and Italy. Geneva, by the author, autographed by Frutiger, 1837. In-8° oblong, half morocco binding, boards in percaline with gilt title on first board, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets, cover preserved. One hinge fragile (contemporary binding). First edition, entirely autographed. With an illustrated title, a map and 122 pen-and-ink drawings, several of which are full-page. Account of a journey made from 21 August to 12 September 1837 through the Mont Blanc region and the Swiss and Italian Alps: Samoëns, Sixt, Col d'Anterne, Saint-Gervais, Col du Bonhomme, Courmayeur, Val d'Aoste, Milan, Como, Lugano, Simplon, Brig, Sion and return to Geneva. One of Töpffer's finest autographed albums, printed in a small number, very rare. Signed autograph letter from Töpffer to Professor Boissier on the cover. Ex-libris Peter Obergfell pasted on the flyleaf. A fine copy, virtually free from foxing. Perret, 4293-K - Candaux XX - not in CAS, ACL, CAI, etc.
