Bound at the end of the 19th century by Joseph Bretault, a pupil of Victor Champs, established as a bookbinder in Paris on rue Bonaparte in 1880. First collective edition of Voyages en zig-zag, in a version interpreted by the best engravers of the time. Illustrated with 422 woodcuts including 53 hors-texte, 15 by Alexandre Calame. Uncommon first edition, as is the case of this copy. The work contains: voyage aux Alpes et en Italie (1837), Saint-Gothard, vallée de Misocco, Via Mala, Glaris et Schwitz (1838), Milan, Côme, Splugen (1839), Chamounix, l'Oberland, le Righi (1840), le tour du lac en quatre journées (1841), voyage à Venise (1842). A very fine copy, superbly bound and perfectly fresh.
