TORAJA, mountainous areas of Sulawesi, Indonesia. Hardwood, patina of use. Ancient "Tutu'liang" door sealing the entrance to the tombs. It is carved in high relief with the majestic head of a water buffalo. Water buffalos are very important animals for the Toraja people, symbolising wealth and power. Height: 53 cm. Width: 42 cm. Provenance: Collection of a couple of collectors, Blois.
