TORRICELLI (Evangelista). Lezioni accademiche. Florence, Jacopo Guiducci & Santi Franchi, 1715. In-4, fawn half-basin, smooth spine decorated with gilt roulettes, untrimmed (19th century binding). Posthumous first edition of these twelve lessons taught at the Accademia della Crusca by the famous physicist and mathematician Torricelli (1608-1647), who invented the first mercury barometer and was a pupil of Galileo.
It is decorated with an intaglio portrait of the author by Pietro Anichini. The text includes three small woodcut figures.
Library stamp on title; some handwritten inscriptions.
The last leaf with the imprimatur is missing. Slip and tear to spine, repair to outer margin of portrait, margins a little short and badly trimmed.
