TOWER CLOCK WITH REAR PENDULUM Southern Germany, 17th century. Copper and brass finely punched, engraved with grotesque figures, dragons, lions, and foliate scrolls, and gilt. Rectangular, closed, architectural case with three-quarter columns at the corners. Pierced, dome-shaped bell frame surrounded by a balustrade and pyramid-shaped phials at the corners. Gilt dial engraved with laurel leaves and flowers, with two hour sequences, Roman numerals for I–XII and Arabic numerals for 13–24. Dial on the back for the striking mechanism, engraved with a compass rose. Movement with verge escapement and rear pendulum, striking the hour on a bell. Key missing. 12 × 12 × 29 cm. Some losses to the gilding. Conversion to pendulum (too long). Movement requires revision. Initially with alarm mechanism.
